Encore University’s Masterclass series seamlessly blends the educational quality of Encore University with the expertise of our instructors for one class deep-dives into practical topics that you can use in your artistic journey. In our 90-minute masterclasses, renowned instructors and musicians will bring their talent to the Zoom classroom. Encore University’s Masterclass series can be enjoyed whether you’re a current Encore University student, or just a lifelong creative learner!
Encore University Masterclass #12: Thinking by Ear with Dr. Vern Falby
If you have a voice, you can sing—and what a joy it is to sing! And, if you can sing, you already have what you need to suss out the sonic design that makes profound music … well, profound!
Join Encore University’s Masterclass series with Dr. Vern Falby on April 24, 2024 for a session on thinking by ear—the activity of analyzing music through listening to what happens in the pieces you love—their pitches and rhythms, their motives and passages.
Dr. Falby is an expert in musical engineering, solfège, and analysis in the service of music making, and served on the faculty of Peabody Conservatory of Music for 31 years.
Guided by one of the greatest minds in music, you will leave April 24’s session singing in your head—and thinking about what you are hearing as you sing—all for use in your own future music making!
