Most Encore singers grew up in the 50s, 60s and 70s. So Encore decided a rock & roll chorus would top the charts - and it has. In fewer than three years, Encore ROCKS has grown to seven locations and over 250 singers who enjoy singing the songs of Elvis, The Beachboys, Led Zeppelin, Motown and Woodstock. Such "contemporary" groups as Bon Jovi, U2 and Queen have also made it into the ROCKS concert repertoire. CLICK HERE to see Fall 2018 repertoire.
For each fifteen-week semester (Sept-Dec and Jan-May), all ROCKS choruses rehearse the same music. Upon completion of the semester, multiple groups come together to perform concerts. All concerts are free and open to the public, and are held at prestigious high-visibility locations such as the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage and DAR Constitution Hall. On December 26, 2018, Encore ROCKS will perform in the Concert Hall at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Singers are seated for rehearsals; they may also be seated for concerts if preferred. Rehearsals are 90 minutes.
Encore is tuition-based. Tuition varies with locations. In addition to the fifteen weeks of rehearsals, led by a professional choral conductor, tuition covers all sheet music and a rehearsal CD highlighting the singer's voice part.
